ABOUT MAIL LISTS

Mail lists are slightly different from Newsgroups or Bulletin Boards in that any mail you or any other subscriber send to the group is distributed by e-mail to all the members of that group automatically. You can reply to a mailing or send a new one on a different subject When you collect your mail all these messages are there awaiting collection so you don't miss anything. This can be a pain with a large group, but you need have no fear about getting too much mail from a Lawn Bowls mail list at this time. The benefits are speed and you don't miss anything, but like Newsgroups and Bulletin boards, you get to discuss various issues with other 'subscribers'.

Perhaps the main thing to remember when subscribing is that your mail is going to go to everyone on the list.

  • Don't send messages which will be annoying to receive. Keep to Bowls (in this case). Junk mail is not appreciated!
  • Use the reply function on your software if replying to a message. It will ensure that the subject is unchanged and (as you will find) make it much easier to follow the topic under discussion. If you change the subject name the mail is split up and difficult for people to follow.
  • If replying on two different topics, do it separately.
  • Use a new subject name for a new topic.
  • Do not mail attachments to the list. If you have files, such as graphics or tournament results, that you would like to share with everyone, please send them to Susan Parker and she will place them in the ftp directory and notify everyone when they are there. If you require further assistance, or to place a file in the ftp directory, please contact
  • Remember - don't write to the posting address asking to be subscribed or unsubscribed.

There is no charge to subscribe to a mail list. You can subscribe and unsubscribe at will. The ausweb service which we have been using will be closed from 11th February 2000. Existing members of the Ausweb [lawnbowl] list are, by common consent, moving to Onelist (Bowlsworld).
Further to this - from 12th June - Onelist became eGroups and after that became YahooGroups!

YahooGroups is an online maillist facility at http://groups.yahoo.com. You simply register yourself as a user and then you can subscribe to any list, or even create your own.

To read bowlsworld messages from the YahooGroups web page go to http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/bowlsworld

To send messages to the bowlsworld web page mail to bowlsworld@yahoogroups.com or substitute the name of the group you wish to post to ?????@yahoogroups.com.

Note:
You can receive copies of postings from any of our own discussion boards: Bulletin Board, Computer Board, News Board, Opinions Board, Technical Board and others, by clicking the blue 'subscribe mail' option button on the sponsor's page of the relative board, or direct from the Main Index Item for any board where it says 'New Postings can be e-mailed to you' .
It is quick and simple to subscribe or unsubscribe to these boards.
